Kempsey Families Inc. Specialist Support Services ( formerly Kempsey Family Support Service Inc.) was incorporated in 1993 with a staff of 3 to meet the needs of vulnerable families in our community .
Our Vision is for a safe ,equitable and inclusive society where children, families and communities are safe, healthy, resilient and connected.
Today we employ 16 staff and retain 2 volunteers and provide a learning space for students from Tafe and University. The service is funded through Family & Community Services and provide a range of programs and projects to support vulnerable families and caregivers. We specialise in domestic and family violence support for women and children through our Staying Home Leaving Violence program, Speak out 4 Kids. Each Wednesday we provide our ‘Red Shed’ Supported Playgroup for children under 5 and their parents/ caregivers. We also provide parenting groups ,case work and advocacy , offer support and mentorship for young people and have a designated young parent case worker. More recently, we became the lead agency across the Mid North Coast for Men’s Behaviour Change work, inviting men who have used violence in an intimate current or past relationship to change their behaviour through an intensive 12 week group setting.
Kempsey Families Inc. greatest achievements are seeing our clients through to reaching their potential in whatever form that takes, providing safety options for women and children and providing a safe and supportive environment for all who seek support.
July marks the 25th Anniversary of the inception of this unique organisation that continues to meet and respond to the needs of community in an integrated , inclusive and client centred approach.
What’s next for Kempsey Families Inc.
Kempsey Families Inc. looks to the future and for new and innovative ways to meet need in our community. We are committed to maintaining the current work, yet seeking ways to work in the child restoration field ; working with families to have children currently placed in out of home care be returned to their families care with ongoing supports in place.
Kempsey Families Inc. is also awaiting the outcome of an application for funding from Women NSW to offer case management in a housing model to support to men excluded from the family home due to their violence. This model would reach across the Mid North Coast with partner organisations ; Warrina DFV Specialist Cooperative and Port Macquarie DFV Specialist Service in partnership with Community Housing.
